Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-

You can tell we’re only 11 days away from the first day of school because this is a very busy edition of The Raptor Rundown.  As a reminder, you can always access our current school year calendar here on our website.  TLDR?  The first day of school is August 18.

We have finalized our cell phone procedures for the 2025-26 school year, and I ask that all families make sure their students understand the expectations.  We want to spend our return to school catching up with students and getting to know our newest Raptors rather than dealing with cell phones.  The expectations below should be very straightforward for students to follow:

  • If a teacher sees a student with a cell phone (or tablet or gaming device) in the classroom or open space, the teacher will ask the student to put the item away until an administrator arrives to collect it.

  • If the student fails to follow the teacher’s directions, this will be noted in the disciplinary paperwork for the situation.

  • Families will be contacted in each instance a student has a cell phone or other device taken.

  • All confiscated devices will be returned to students at the conclusion of the school day.

  • In the unlikely instance a student fails to give a device to an administrator, the student will be removed from the class and the parent notified.  Additional disciplinary consequences, including In-School Detention, may be implemented.

Please know that we take the failure to follow directions very seriously at CodeRVA.  We strive to maintain a school culture built on courtesy between students and adults, and we want our environment to be more like a workplace than a traditional high school.  In any job there are guidelines we may not enjoy, but part of the workplace experience is following them anyway and without rudeness, inappropriate language, etc.  Thank you in advance for helping us preserve instructional time by reviewing our new guidelines around cell phones and other devices before August 18!

Again as we prepare for the start of school, you can check your entrance paperwork off your list by filling out this form.  In it are all the many items we want to share with you before school begins.  The deadline for this form is August 29, but no need to wait until then to complete it.  Please note that students will not be able to buy tickets for Homecoming (scheduled for October 17; Save the Date!) until this form is completed.

You may have already heard, but tomorrow starts Virginia’s Tax-Free Weekend.  We wanted to pass along this information we were recently sent:

  • Beginning Friday, August 1, through Sunday, August 3, purchases made on the following qualifying items will be tax-free: school supplies priced at $20 or less per item, clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less, and items to assist with hurricane preparedness and other emergencies. For more information, visit the VA Department of Taxation.

CodeRVA seeks to minimize the amount of items families need to buy to start school, and our Student Supply List can be found here on our website.  I have also included the items below for quick reference.

  • Headphones (wired or wireless are acceptable)

  • Looseleaf paper in a notebook/binder OR spiral notebooks for notes and student work (choose whichever format your student prefers)

  • Pens and pencils

Attention Families of Juniors and Seniors!  We are sharing the following scheduling updates for the 2025-26 school year.  Most of the information below is the same as what was shared at the end of last school year, but some updates have been added.  Please read the information below carefully.

  • All 11th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway will no longer have any gaps in their schedules during the school year as previous cohorts experienced. These students should plan to attend all marking periods of the 2025-26 school year.  One programming change is that these students’ CodeRVA Physics class will move to an asynchronous format for Marking Period 3, BUT students will still be taking courses on campus during what we are referring to as their “J Term”.  This year’s J Term will include two courses: MUS 121: Music and Society and HIS 121: US History.  Students will have one class in the morning and a second class in the afternoon. Students will have time during Raptor Rotation to continue working on their CodeRVA Physics class and other online classes as applicable.

  • All 11th grade students taking Dual Enrollment classes through the Classic + DE pathway should plan to attend in person during all marking periods as well.  These students will no longer have any significant gaps in their schedules during the school year as previous cohorts experienced.  If any programming gaps exist, they will be brief, during the school day, and students will remain on campus and have time to complete work for any course in which they are enrolled.

  • 11th grade students who recently transitioned from the Associate Degree pathway over the summer but remain in Dual Enrollment courses (there are only 11 students in this group) will take one course during Marking Period 3 in their J Term: HIS 121: US History. Their CodeRVA Physics class will move to an  asynchronous format for only MP3 and students will have time during Raptor Rotation to continue working on their CodeRVA Physics class and other online classes as applicable.

  • All 11th grade students not enrolled in any Dual Enrollment courses should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 29, 2026.

  • All 12th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway should plan to attend in person all marking periods through the end of Marking Period 5 (4/15/26). At the conclusion of MP5, students on the Associate Degree will have completed all requirements for their high school diploma and Associate Degree (unless they are completing a World Language course during their 12th grade year). These students should not plan to attend classes after MP5 concludes.

  • All 12th grade students taking Dual Enrollment classes through J. Sargeant Reynolds who are not on the Associate Degree pathway should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8, 2026. Following the conclusion of their Dual Enrollment courses on April 15, 2026, there may be an option to arrive late or leave early if they have transportation available. More details will be shared during the spring about this possible option.

  • All 12th grade students on the Web Design pathway should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8. Following the conclusion of their Web Design courses on April 15, students will be given the option to arrive at the beginning of Rotation 3 if they have transportation available. More details will be shared during the spring about the late arrival option. Students that do not arrive late during this time will be assigned to a specific location to complete work.

  • All 12th grade students not enrolled in any Dual Enrollment courses should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8, 2026.

Last but not least today, here are two items passed along to us by our partners that your family might be interested in.

  • This Friday, August 1, from 5-8 p.m. at ART 180, join RPS students for the opening of Hol’on We Stay Here, a powerful youth-curated exhibition from ART 180’s summer teen programs. The immersive show explores the legacy of displacement in Jackson Ward through the eyes of young artists who spent the summer uncovering its layered history. Step into a reimagined gallery filled with custom sneaker designs, student DJ mixes, and more! RSVP to attend this free event.

  • The Commonwealth Day of Play is a statewide celebration designed to bring classic play back into children’s lives. From sack races to getting muddy and running wild with friends, we’re reviving the joy of field day fun and community spirit.  We’re calling on everyone—parks, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods—to come together and get kids outside, active, and playing the way childhood was meant to be.  Join us at Taylor Farm Park on August 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM or celebrate in your own community!  #CommonwealthDayOfPlay

  • Ready to join the movement?  Let’s reclaim childhood—unplug, go outside, and play.  Use the resources below to help spread the word, plan your event, and bring back the joy of unplugged, outdoor fun.

That is it for this week, Raptors!  I hope you are able to enjoy the cooler temperatures heading our way after another very hot and humid week.  Stay safe!

Previous Raptor Rundown Reminders

Reminders for any student taking a course through Virtual Virginia in 2025-26:

  • All world language courses taken through Virtual Virginia will begin on Thursday, August 14. Before courses begin, make sure your Virtual VA student account is set up and ready to use. VVA will send an email to your CodeRVA account that will contain your username and instructions on setting up your password if you are a new user or a returning student who does not remember your password. If you have any issues accessing your account, please email VVA at support@virtualva.org

  • Each VVA instructor will host a Course Orientation Session to help you get started in your VVA course on the first day of class. Each course instructor will send an email with a meeting link for the Course Welcome Session.

Attention all Seniors in the Class of 2026!  Here is all the information you need about Senior portraits, quotes, Yearbooks and more!

All 12th graders must show proof of two doses of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine: one dose before age 16 and one dose at age 16 or older. If a student did not receive a single dose before age 16, one dose given at age 16 or older is fine.  Families can send a printed or scanned copy of the student’s shot record to cindy.crowder@coderva.org or send in a copy with the student.  The deadline for submitting this information is August 15th, but don’t wait if you have this information on hand now.  Students will not be able to attend school in the fall without verification of this immunization.  If you have questions or need additional assistance, please call Nurse Crowder at 968-1823 or email her at the address above.

All families who want to pay their 2025-26 school fees in person with cash or a check made payable to CodeRVA Regional High School can do so this year on August 13 4-6:30 PM here at CodeRVA.  We will also have computers set up so you can pay online in person if you would like, but please note the company that Henrico County uses to host our fee system does charge a fee for paying online.  (That fee does not go to CodeRVA and is typically 3-5% of the total cost of your fees.)  You are also (of course) welcome to pay online after August 13 from the comfort of your home and are not required to pay fees in person.  11th and 12th grade students taking Dual Enrollment courses should wait until August 13 or after to pay their fees once they receive their new schedule for 2025-26.  All families can check here for a complete listing of student fees by grade level and pathway.

We encourage you to stop by our PTSA membership table and join for the year if you do come in to pay your fees.  Some of our amazing PTSA volunteers will be on site to answer any questions you have about our PTSA.

Please note no tours will be given during this event, and no student devices will be distributed.  Current 11th and 12th grade CodeRVA students already have their devices (which they should bring fully-charged on August 18 when they return) and new 9th graders will receive their devices the following day at Ninth Grade Academy.  Current 10 grade CodeRVA students will receive their new laptops on August 18.

Ninth grade families are also welcome to pay their fees after Ninth Grade Academy concludes on Thursday, August 14.  If you are picking up your student you are welcome to pay fees between 3-3:30 PM here at CodeRVA.
