Good afternoon, CodeRVA...

Greetings, CodeRVA Raptors-

Welcome, CodeRVA Raptor Families, Community Supporters, and Future Raptors!

I have had the pleasure of serving our CodeRVA Raptor community as the Executive Director since January 2020.  Whether you are visiting our website because you are considering applying or partnering with our school, we invite you to check out the information on our pages and email us at info@coderva.org if there is something you want to know but cannot find.

CodeRVA is fortunate to have innovative, dedicated, and caring educators and staff who are changing how schools approach teaching and learning in our region.  Students at our school have the opportunity to not only get an excellent high school education, but all 11th and 12th graders participate in an immersive internship experience that prepares them to be employable upon graduation or enter into a rigorous college education.  In addition, students may choose to take Dual Enrollment courses or pursue an Associate Degree in Computer Science through our partnership with J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.  No matter what path our graduates choose, we want them to carry our CodeRVA values and be Courteous, Open-Minded, Determined, and Engaged citizens who make meaningful contributions to our world.

I am tremendously proud to lead our small, student-centered school. I was fortunate to have a variety of experiences over the course of 21 years while in Chesterfield County Public Schools at the division level in Human Resources and School Leadership, but the majority of my career has been spent where I am happiest, which is working with students. I have been an assistant principal in several school settings: Matoaca Middle School, Robious Middle School, Cosby High School, and Bailey Bridge Middle School, where I also served as principal for six years.

Although I grew up in rural Augusta County, I love living in Richmond and have been here since 1993. I am a proud graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University for all four of my degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Women’s Studies; a Master of Teaching in Secondary Education; a Post-Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. When I am not at CodeRVA or VCU, I enjoy spending time with my husband Matt, a middle school social studies teacher, and my daughter Lydia, who is 14.

If you would like to speak with me, please do not hesitate to contact me at 804.968.1820. Thank you again for checking out our website, and remember #WeAreCodeRVA.

With warmest regards-

Kume Goranson, Ed.D.
