The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, (§ 2.2-3700 et seq. of the Code of Virginia), guarantees citizens of the Commonwealth and representatives of the media access to public records held by public bodies, public officials and public employees.

 

A public record is any writing or recording — regardless of whether it is a paper record, an electronic file, an audio or video recording, or record in any other format — that is prepared or owned by, or in the possession of a public body or its officers, employees or agents in the transaction of public business. All public records are presumed to be open, and may only be withheld if a specific statutory exemption applies.

 

The policy of FOIA states that the purpose of FOIA is to promote an increased awareness by all persons of governmental activities. In furthering this policy, FOIA requires that the law be interpreted liberally, in favor of access, and that any exemption allowing public records to be withheld must be interpreted narrowly.

 

A public body may make reasonable charges not to exceed its actual cost incurred in accessing, duplicating, supplying, or searching for the requested records and shall make all reasonable efforts to supply the requested records at the lowest possible cost. No public body shall impose any extraneous, intermediary, or surplus fees or expenses to recoup the general costs associated with creating or maintaining records or transacting the general business of the public body. Any duplicating fee charged by a public body shall not exceed the actual cost of duplication. Prior to conducting a search for records, the public body shall notify the requester in writing that the public body may make reasonable charges not to exceed its actual cost incurred in accessing, duplicating, supplying, or searching for requested records and inquire of the requester whether he would like to request a cost estimate in advance of the supplying of the requested records as set forth in subsection F of § 2.2-3704 of the Code of Virginia.

Your FOIA rights:

• You have the right to request to inspect or receive copies of public records, or both.
• You have the right to request that any charges for the requested records be estimated in advance.  
• If you believe that your FOIA rights have been violated, you may file a petition in district or circuit court to compel compliance with FOIA.  Alternatively, you may contact the FOIA Council for a nonbinding advisory opinion.

Required Notifications and Availability of Policies and Regulations

Acceptable Computer System Use Agreement

Annually, each family must complete the Student Information Form and acknowledge they are able to access the Acceptable Computer Use Agreement, which is located in the Standards of Student Conduct, located here. 

Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment Classes

Attendance

Refer to the Standards of Student Conduct for information on Compulsory Attendance here and VA Code 22.1-279.3.C(iii) for information.

Anonymous Alerts

An anonymous option for reporting the alleged abuse of minors is available on this anonymous report form.

• Any teacher or other person employed who has reason to suspect that a child is an abused or neglected child, including any child who may be abandoned, is required to report such suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to local or state social services agencies or the director or his/her designee; and all persons required to report cases of suspected child abuse or neglect are immune from civil or criminal liability or administrative penalty or sanction on account of such reports unless such person has acted in bad faith or with malicious purpose. The Virginia Department of Social Services’ toll-free child abuse and neglect hotline is 1-800-552-7096.

Budget

The CodeRVA Regional School Board annually approves an operating budget.  More information can be found here. The budget can also be made available in hard copy form as needed upon request.  The tuition cost for school divisions for the 2026-27 school year is XXXXX and the cost for the 2025-26 school year was XXXXX. 

Cell Phones

From bell to bell, students are prohibited from using cell phones and other smart devices while on school property. Additional information is located here within the Standards of Student Conduct and here regarding VA Code 22.1-79.3:1.

Counseling

CodeRVA offers academic and career guidance as well as personal and social counseling to students. More information can be found here.

Course Selection Timelines

CodeRVA Regional High School typically begins the course selection process for the next school year in December.  Families should monitor their email and the Executive Director’s weekly Raptor Rundown communication for more information. 

Credits Required for Graduation and Advanced and Standard Diplomas

Digital Accessibility

In accordance with the Virginia Information Technology Access Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3500 et seq., it is the policy of the CodeRVA Regional High School Board that all ICT purchased, acquired, or developed in-house for use by students, employees, program participants, and the general public be accessible to individuals with disabilities. The school ensures that individuals with disabilities have access to and use of information and data that is equivalent to the access and use provided to individuals without disabilities, unless an exception applies under federal law.  Questions and concerns about digital accessibility should be addressed to the Digital Accessibility Coordinator Mr. Michael Breunig at michael.breunig@coderva.org or 804-968-1820.

Eating Disorders Awareness Information

Every school board must annually provide information to parents of pupils in grades five through 12 regarding eating disorders. The information must be consistent with guidelines developed by the Virginia Department of Education. Va. Code § 22.1-273.2. A sample information sheet for parents is available on the Virginia Department of Education’s website.

 

Emergency Procedures

Emergency drills are performed on a regular schedule with students and may include fire, lockdown, earthquake, and tornado drills.  Additional types of drills will be scheduled if necessary.  Procedures for emergency drills are reviewed with students during the first week of each school year.  Families with questions about emergency procedures can contact the Associate Principal Dr. Rebecca Harmon at rebecca.harmon@coderva.org or 804-968-1820.

Families or Students Experiencing Homelessness or Housing Insecurity

Any family or student who becomes homeless while enrolled in CodeRVA Regional High School should notify their home zoned school division as well as CodeRVA so that both organizations can provide support.

Food and Nutrition Services

CodeRVA Regional High School is proud to be a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) site.  All CodeRVA students receive free breakfast and lunch through our School Nutrition provider: Henrico County Public Schools.

Nondiscrimination

 

The CodeRVA School Board complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education

Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Improvement Act of 1990, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The CodeRVA School Board does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, age, or disability in any of its programs and activities. The Executive Director, their designee, and the Superintendents’ Advisory Council Chair are responsible for the coordination of compliance with these provisions.

Parking Passes for Students: Valid Driver’s License is Required

Families must complete this form annually for any student wishing to drive to school.  Paper copies are available upon request.  CodeRVA students should park their vehicles in the parking lot at CodeRVA only. Students should obey all street signs and not park in restricted locations as they may be towed.  CodeRVA is not held responsible for any vehicles that are towed from the areas surrounding our school.

Special Education Services Including for Students Identified As Deaf or Hard of Hearing or Visually Impaired

 

CodeRVA Regional High School is proud to support students who are identified for Special Education services and to provide them access to a free appropriate public education.  Families can learn more about the resources provided in each home zoned school division here.  

Any family who suspects their student has a disability while enrolled in CodeRVA Regional High School should immediately notify their home zoned high school as well as CodeRVA so that both organizations can provide further guidance.

 

The Virginia Department of Education provides information annually for families of students with sensory disabilities.  More information can be accessed here or through free services available from the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, and the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired.  Families without online access can obtain printed copies of this information by contacting the school at info@coderva.org or 804-968-1820.

Privacy Statement

It is the policy of CodeRVA Regional High School that personal information about citizens will be collected only to the extent necessary to provide the service or the benefit desired by the user; that only appropriate information will be collected; that the user shall understand the reason the information is collected and be able to examine their personal record.

The CodeRVA website uses Jetpack Analytics, which helps website owners measure how users interact with website content.
