Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-

It is hard to believe we are counting down the last 10 school days of the 2024 calendar year.  Wow!  We have several important items for you this week before we go.

First, thank you to all our Raptors for their quick responses on Tuesday during our unexpected fire drill.  For those families new to CodeRVA, unfortunately unexpected evacuations are not as unusual as you might think due to sharing our building with The Park, Michael and Son (who are also our landlords), and two other businesses.  From what was shared with us, when a boiler was reset to respond to our concerns about not having heat on Tuesday, and that boiler caused a problem that resulted in our fire alarm activating.  Thankfully, there was no danger at any time.

Looking ahead to next week, we will be having our last Flex Day of 2024.  Please check out the announcements below.

  • Check out what our School Counseling Department has planned for this upcoming Flex Day:

    • Our School Counselors will be conducting CodeRVA Pathway presentations with our 9th graders.

    • Our GRASP Advisor, Ms. Joyce King, will be available to meet with seniors who have questions about FAFSA.

  • The next PTSA Snack Cart is December 11!  Remember to bring cash!  Prices range from $1.00+.  They accept Apple Pay or credit card, but there is a minimum of $1.00 fee.

  • 11th Grade students on the Associate Degree pathway, 11th Grade students taking Dual Enrollment classes, and 11th Grade students on the Web Design pathway are welcome to come to CodeRVA for our Flex Day on Wednesday, December 11, no matter the status of courses (asynchronous or late arrival) for Marking Period 3.  Students who plan to attend for Flex Day should report to Room 407 for Rotation 1, and students should sign up for flex activities via the form here. Sign ups will close after Raptor Rotation (at 1:00 PM) on Monday, December 9.

Speaking of our PTSA, please check out the message below from them:

  • As we approach the Holiday Season we would like to show our appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff. One way we are planning to do this is by giving them gift cards as a token of our gratitude.  We are kindly asking for monetary donations to help fund these gift cards. Any contribution, large or small, will be greatly appreciated and will go directly toward purchasing gift cards for our amazing teachers and staff.  If you would like to contribute please go here: https://coderva.givebacks.com/store/items/502456  The deadline for donations is December 16th.  Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Your contribution will help make this gesture a meaningful one for those who work so hard to support our children.

Here is a new feature you will start seeing at the close of each week’s Raptor Rundown.  Does your student want a copy of their transcript?  Have them create a self-service Parchment account using these directions: Ordering a Transcript from Parchment

Here is a message from the Virginia Department of Education we were asked to pass along:

Here is an opportunity for students living in Virginia District 04:

Gatherings will entail discussions led by the council members concerning legislative proposals, current events, and working through hypothetical scenarios.

  • Members will enjoy exclusive opportunities to connect with DC legislative and District staff, gaining valuable insights into the legislative process and deepening their understanding of governance. Meetings will be held once a month on Monday’s from 5:30 PM- 7:30 PM from January to May 2025!
