Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-
THANK YOU for an incredible first week of school! It has been such fun to have our students back on campus and (even if they would never admit it), based on the smiles we’ve seen, it looks like they are glad to be here too. We think 2026-27 might be our best year yet!
Since we are in a new school year, we have several items for this week. First, please see the message below from Ms. Welsh who is our FeedMore program coordinator again this year. We are proud to partner with Feed More to support any of our families who are experiencing temporary or ongoing food insecurity.

We’re excited to share that CodeRVA is once again partnering with FeedMore to provide Weekend Backpack meals. Each weekend bag includes six shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare meals: 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners. This program will run from September 8, 2026 through May 28, 2027.

Are you someone who has time during the day for volunteering? If so, please check out this related volunteer opportunity that starts on Thursday, September 10th:

We need one volunteer to pick up Weekend Backpacks from FeedMore for students. FeedMore is located at 8020 Villa Park Drive, Richmond, VA 23228. Each bag contains 6 shelf-stable, quick to prepare meals for students. Your job would be to pick up the backpacks and deliver them to CodeRVA each Thursday morning. These meals help ensure that students have nutritious food to take home for the weekend. If you’re able to help with this initiative, please reach out to Ms. Welsh (ryanne.welsh@coderva.org) for additional information. Your assistance would make a significant difference for our students and their families.
Our next item is one we are required to send out at the start of the school year. In the unlikely event our building becomes uninhabitable due to an emergency like a fire, flood, etc., you need to know where to retrieve your student. In the event we need to evacuate, we will send an emergency message using our typical communication methods (text, call, email), and we will ask for your patience and understanding while we prioritize working with students directly first and not answering the phone or emails, even though I know as a parent that may heighten your stress levels. If we leave our building, we will first use SCOR (Sports Center of Richmond at 1385 Overbrook Road) as our evacuation location. In the event that building is also compromised, we will go to CarMax Park complex. Once we have determined the crisis is over we will begin releasing students, but please note that even in an emergency we will not release a student to anyone who is not listed on the Student Information Form we ask families to complete or to someone who cannot verify their identity with a Driver’s License or other state/federal identification. We will always err on the side of student safety and keep students with school personnel rather than releasing them to an unknown individual.

The VDOE would also like you to be aware of LockandTalk.org and the new legislation of § 18.2-56.2 or Allowing Access to Firearms by Children:

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to recklessly leave a loaded, unsecured firearm in such a manner as to endanger the life or limb of any child under the age of fourteen. Any person violating the provisions of this subsection shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

B. It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to authorize a child under the age of twelve to use a firearm except when the child is under the supervision of an adult. Any person violating this subsection shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. For purposes of this subsection, “adult” shall mean a parent, guardian, person standing in loco parentis to the child or a person twenty-one years or over who has the permission of the parent, guardian, or person standing in loco parentis to supervise the child in the use of a firearm.

Diabetes Types I and II Informational One-Pager: In accordance with HB 1301 (SB 122), VDOE and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) collaborated to develop Diabetes Information for Parents, an informational one-page resource for parents and guardians about Diabetes Mellitus Types I and II. This document outlines common signs and symptoms of diabetes and includes links to evidence-based resources to help families stay informed about this chronic condition. Families are strongly encouraged to maintain regular well-child checkups with their child’s health care provider and consult with them about any health concerns.

For your planning purposes, please note our school is closed on Friday September 4 and Monday September 7. Please make sure you contact us with any questions as early next week as possible so we can serve you best. All emails and phone calls will be returned on Tuesday September 8 once we are back on campus. The Raptor Rundown will arrive on time though on Friday at 3 PM as regularly scheduled.

Is your student driving to school this year? If so, please note families will need to complete this form. (We will also have paper copies available in the Main Office if needed.) No students may drive to school without a completed form, and there is no parking fee associated with this form. Even if a student has a completed form on file from last year, we must have a new form completed for this school year. As a reminder, CodeRVA students should park their vehicles in the parking lot at CodeRVA only. Students should obey all street signs and not park in restricted locations as they may be towed. CodeRVA is not held responsible for any vehicles that are towed from the areas surrounding our school.
Homecoming is now moved up a week to October 9, and the dance will be 7-9 PM upstairs in The Park’s Hideaway. Stay tuned for more details and this year’s theme.
Back to School Night is also moving by one day to September 23. Exact times for this event are still being settled, but you can estimate it will start around 6 PM.
