Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-

Thank you for another great week at CodeRVA!  The school year is really underway now, and we have several calendar items you won’t want to miss.  First, as part of our ongoing desire to have open communication with families, please be aware we will have a lockdown drill during the upcoming week.  While we cannot share the date or time for safety purposes, we are notifying you of our intention.  You will not receive any communications beyond this general notification, but please feel free to contact us if you have questions.  Mrs. Harmon or I will be happy to assist.

As another reminder, we will have school pictures and Senior portrait makeups this coming week.  Please see the reminder below.

  • Strawbridge will be at CodeRVA to take school portraits on Thursday, September 19. All underclass students (grades 9 – 11) will take pictures during Rotation 1, Rotation 2, or Raptor Rotation. These pictures are for use in our Yearbook, and students will also receive a student ID with their school picture. Senior portrait makeups will also occur on Thursday, September 19. Complete information on Senior pictures can be found here. To order underclass school photos, check out the flyer from Strawbridge here. To subscribe to notifications from Strawbridge on underclass school portraits, including emails letting you know when pictures are ready to order as well as promotional deals and discounts on your child’s pictures, fill out the form here.

Bring your school picture fit to our KEVA Studio Fundraiser later the same evening!  Please consider attending (and bring a friend!) and share this opportunity to support CodeRVA within your social networks.  Thank you!

Mark your calendars now for Homecoming 2025 on October 25!  We will host this event again this year upstairs at The Park 7-9 PM.  We will share more specific details about where to enter, a guest permission form that must be completed for any non-CodeRVA attendees, and more soon.  For now, please remember that students who still owe school fees will not be able to purchase a ticket or attend the dance.  Questions about your student’s outstanding fees?  Please contact our Office Manager Mrs. LaDonna Whitehead at 804-968-1822 directly.

If you need an outfit for Homecoming, we have two great options for you.  Please contact your School Counselor or Special Education case manager to request an appointment to shop our closet of new and gently used clothing.  We would love to move some merch!  Or you may be interested in this community opportunity.

Attention all Families of Students Enrolled in Virtual Virginia!

  • Here is a reminder to families of ALL students taking a Virtual Virginia World Language course this year: The deadline to drop your student’s World Language course without penalty is Friday, November 15, 2024 at 3 PM. Please notify your student’s School Counselor no later than 3 PM on November 15 if you wish to drop the course. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s School Counselor.

CodeRVA is excited to welcome colleges and universities this fall to come talk with our Juniors and Seniors about what their programs have to offer. Students will have an opportunity to speak with a representative during their lunch time. Please see the below schedule of our upcoming college visits this month:

  • Wednesday September 18: MIT

  • Friday September 27th: University of Richmond

Speaking of colleges, standardized testing season is quickly approaching.  Please note, CodeRVA offers a PSAT in October and an SAT in March free of charge, but we understand families may be interested in additional testing opportunities. If your student is interested in taking the SAT or ACT this year outside of CodeRVA and is in need of financial assistance, please reach out to your student’s School Counselor to request a fee waiver.

Last but not least today, please see this note from our awesome CodeRVA PTSA:

  • Wow, we did it! 🎉 We’ve reached our goal of 200 PTSA memberships!  A huge thank you to our incredible community for your support and for making this possible!

  • The PTSA wants to treat our teachers and staff to a delightful coffee bar at the end of the month.  If you’re able to donate, please sign up. All items should be delivered to the front office, labeled ‘PTA,’ by September 25th.

That is it for this week, Raptors!  I hope you have a great weekend before the rain moves in next week.  We look forward to seeing our Raptors back on Monday!
