Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-

This week’s Raptor Rundown is a mix of old and new news, much like our weather this week.  We had both summer and autumn; not cool, Virginia!

Speaking of Virginia, here is your last Virtual Virginia reminder on this topic.  The deadline to drop your student’s World Language course without penalty is Friday, November 15 at 3 PM. Please notify your student’s School Counselor no later than 3 PM on November 15 if you wish to drop the course. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student’s School Counselor.

Here is another deadline our families of Juniors on the DE+Applied or Web Design pathways will not want to miss.  Please respond as soon as you can before the November 8 deadline.

Here is one last reminder of this schedule change for our 11th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway!

  • 11th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway should plan to attend in person during all marking periods except for Marking Period 3 (11/18/24-1/17/25). During MP3, students should plan to work virtually on their Physics course and any additional online electives. These students should also plan to attend for two weeks during Summer 2025 to complete a Dual Enrollment computer science course.

Here is a note from our CodeRVA PTSA our students won’t want to miss:

  • Next Snack Cart is November 20!  Remember to bring cash!  Prices range from 50 cents to $2.50.  We accept Apple Pay or credit card, but there is a minimum of 70 cents fee.

Here is an update all families will want to check out.  If you plan to opt your student out, please email our Computer Science and Technology Specialist, Mr. Michael Breunig, at michael.breunig@coderva.org by December 6 so that we can prepare accordingly.  Thank you!

  • Google has changed its requirement for Google additional services (Google Maps, Chrome Web Store, Google Earth, Youtube, Search and Assistant).  Starting March 2025, users under 18 will not be able to access additional Google services without parental consent confirmed.

Looking for holiday gifts now?  Check out this message from Strawbridge:

  • Parents still need to order pictures? Our NEW Code Lookup Tool is now available. They can simply scan the QR code and follow the directions to access their child’s picture ordering gallery. No need to contact Customer Service for an access code! *Student last name and Student ID number will be required for data security.*

  • If at any time you have questions about the Code Lookup or are having difficulty navigating the site, please reach out to our Customer Service team via the Live Chat on our website, www.strawbridge.net

Likewise, this week is our last week for our flash spiritwear store.  Please order by November 15 if you are interested!

  • This link will open on Monday November 4 and remain open until November 15.  This is not a fundraiser, so all items are being offered at the lowest prices possible: https://coderva.itemorder.com/

Maybe your Raptor lost something so long ago that they can find it now and it will be like a gift?  Maybe!  Our first Lost and Found of the school year will be next week.  It is a table located outside the 100s restrooms.  If your student has lost something, please have them stop by and reclaim it as soon as possible.  Any items still left on the table by November 18 will be donated or discarded as applicable.

Here is one last reminder that PE Logs for students currently enrolled in Health and PE 9 and Health and PE 10 are due on Thursday, November 14. Students can access a printed copy of the PE Log in Raptor Rotation or a digital copy here. Students need to complete 12 hours of physical activity each marking period, but no more than 2 hours per activity. An adult signature for each logged activity is required. The PE Log is a significant portion of the grade for an online Health and PE Course.

This is the final week for this item before it moves down into our Previous Raptor Rundown Reminders section.

  • All 9th graders will be completing their CPR Skills Check on Monday, November 25 during their Raptor Rotation. This is not a full CPR certification, but it does meet the graduation requirement of the CPR Skills Check. Students will perform chest compressions and simulate giving breaths to a CPR mannequin. Students currently in Health and PE 9 have a Marking Period 2 module on First Aid and Safety that aligns with the CPR skills check. Additional study materials are also available here. Please send any questions to Emily Cooper (emily.cooper@coderva.org).

Last but not least today, here is a message the Virginia Department of Education has asked us to pass along:

  • The Top 10 Proven Actions to Ensure Your Student is Ready to Soar This School Year resource document is a data-based list of helpful tips for parents to use throughout the school year. Divisions and schools are encouraged to share this resource with parents and their broader school communities.

    • Attendance Matters, Every Day

    • Partner with your Child’s Teacher and Set Learning Goals

    • Practice Math & Reading 20 Minutes a Day

    • Limit Screen Time

    • Build Healthy Sleep Habits

    • Start the Day with a Good Breakfast at Home or at School

    • Get Moving and Play!

    • Talk with your Children about the Dangers of Drugs and Alcohol

    • Support your Child’s Mental Health

    • Talk with your Child – Anywhere You Can

That is it for this week, Raptors!  Whew!  It was a lot!  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and thank you in advance to all our Veterans and their families in advance of Veterans Day on Monday!
