Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-

Do these warmer temperatures of late mean we might be out of the woods for winter weather?  We’ll see!  Second semester academics are definitely heating up at CodeRVA.  NOW is the time for our students who haven’t been turning in assignments or turning them in on time to make some drastic changes.  We are already looking at Summer Session enrollment based on current grades, and you should not be spending your summer indoors with us.  Let’s make those grades match your ability and potential!

Thank you to our Student Services team (Mr. Winn, Dr. Zenon, Ms. Culbertson) for hosting the Life After High School Event this week.  Below is a message from them:

  • Thank you to everyone who participated in this week’s Life After High School virtual event. If you missed it and are interested in hearing about the topics covered, please check out the recording as well as the slide deck. Both of these are also available on our website for you to view. If you have any questions about any of the material covered, please don’t hesitate to contact your student’s school counselor.

Another way we prepare our graduates for life after high school is by giving every 11th grade student a mock interview at the end of their Internship experience.  Please see the note below and help us fill these spots by volunteering or checking in your networks for who might be interested in assisting.  Thank you!

  • Interviewers for 11th Grade Internship Mock Interviews are needed, and we are inviting our CodeRVA families to consider tapping into your professional networks to assist us in connecting with interested volunteers. Our first round of interviews will take place Thursday, February 27, 2025. The designated time slot is 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. We can also accommodate other times if needed, and we welcome our volunteers to interview for the entire block of time or a portion of the block. If a volunteer would like to serve as an interviewer later in the spring, our final round for the year is on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., but again, we can work with other timeframes on that date if that better suits a volunteer’s schedule.

  • Each student’s mock interview is approximately 15 minutes and will be held virtually. A list of questions (along with a scoring rubric) will be provided prior to the interviews, so there is very little preparation time involved in this process. If someone in your professional network might be interested in this opportunity, please feel free to share these details with them. To serve as an interviewer, please contact our Work-Based Learning Coordinators Lanae Dowe and Nicole Neal.

Here is a message from our Associate Principal Mrs. Rebecca Harmon, who has really enjoyed her task of coordinating buses for 15 school divisions with all the inclement weather we’ve had.

  • Thank you for hanging on with us during these past few weeks of weather delays and closures. If your school division is closed but CodeRVA is open and you cannot transport your student to school, there is no penalty for that absence. We are aware of the closure and notate it accordingly.  If your school division has a delay but CodeRVA is open at normal time, there is no penalty for that late arrival.  If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. We are in this together!

Here is a note just for our Dinwiddie families: Dinwiddie is still transporting students on February 3rd, even though that division is closed. They will pick up at 7:15 AM at Dinwiddie High School as usual!

Here is a message from our awesome PTSA we hope you don’t miss!

Hopefully that last message put you in a good mood before you read this one.  We thought our school was not affected by a recent security breach at PowerSchool, but we recently learned we were involved.  Please see the information below from PowerSchool.

  • We are writing to update you regarding the recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the software vendor that provides our Student Information System (SIS).

  • Today, January 29, 2025, PowerSchool initiated the process of notifying individuals whose information was determined to be involved.

  • As previously mentioned, PowerSchool has engaged Experian, a trusted credit reporting agency, to provide complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to current and former students and educators that had information exfiltrated from PowerSchool SIS. PowerSchool is doing this regardless of whether an individual’s Social Security Number was exfiltrated. In the coming weeks, Experian (on behalf of PowerSchool) will be distributing direct email notifications to involved individuals (or their parent/guardian, as applicable) for whom PowerSchool has sufficient contact information.

  • Additionally, PowerSchool has worked with Experian to set up a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer any questions associated with these offerings and the incident. All the information regarding the activation of and access to these services will be included in the email sent to you by Experian. Whether or not you receive an email, you may also visit PowerSchool’s website to learn how to activate the offering from Experian, linked here: http://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/notice-of-united-states-data-breach/ .

  • Protecting our students and teachers remains our top priority. Thank you again for all of your support and understanding during this time.

That is it for today, Raptors!  I hope you have a great weekend ahead, and on Monday we’ll be in FEBRUARY.  That means our Seniors have just over 3 months before Graduation, and we only have 4 months until school is out.  Let’s get those grades in we head towards spring!

The PTSA is looking for a Co-Chair for the Raptor Run!
