Good afternoon, CodeRVA Families-
We are wrapping up a great first week at CodeRVA! I think our students have had a good week back (although they would surely never admit it) and we saw lots of smiles, laughter, and new friendships being forged.
On the first day of school we met with all grade levels for brief assemblies to review our behavior expectations for the year. You can find a summary of the points we reviewed below.
-
CodeRVA is different from any other school students have attended.
-
We are a community, and our school works because we all make positive contributions.
-
Most of the things students have seen in previous school settings are not appropriate in this community.
-
We keep our school clean and neat without being asked.
-
We touch only our belongings and turn in any unattended items we find.
-
We report anything that puts others in danger or breaks the law, which includes horseplay, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and weapons immediately.
-
We provide emotional and mental safety for others by focusing on kindness, courtesy, and including all students.
-
We follow Virginia’s new law about having cell phone free schools, and we keep our phones off and out of sight between 8:50 AM-2:56 PM.
-
CodeRVA is a school of choice, and attending here means choosing to adapt to our community’s expectations.
-
CodeRVA teachers and staff all chose to come here too, and we care about every student and want what is best for them.
-
We want our community to be drama and conflict free as much as possible, and students should seek out help from Drs. Goranson and Harmon or other staff if they need assistance.
-
There is an expectation of 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students at CodeRVA that they model appropriate behaviors and choices and have a welcoming attitude to new students. As students move through the grade levels, expectations for them increase.
Thank you to all our students who have done a great job complying with our new cell phone procedures. We have only had to pick up 10 or less phones each day, and each day the number confiscated is less. I am also thrilled to report all our students displayed a cooperative attitude in turning in their phones when asked to do so. Thank you so much to every family who has communicated our expectations with their students, and I am so grateful to have students who understand our expectations for courtesy.
At our assemblies we had several questions asked about procedures around phones and other personal devices (such as iPads, video gaming devices, etc.) on Flex Days, and after careful consideration, we have decided to rely on the rationale that our Flex afternoons are not instructional time and the activities being conducted would typically be held after school at most other schools, so that students can access their personal devices during Flex afternoons. PLEASE NOTE: devices will not be permitted to be visible until 12:48 PM when Flex activities begin. If students have any items out before that time they will be taken and our regular procedures followed (families contacted; items returned in the Main Office at the end of the school day) and students will not have access to those items during Flex time, which I assume would be absolute torture for them. Our first Flex day is on September 17, and students should ask any clarifying questions they have well before that date. Thank you!
We have one more item on the subject of behavior for you today. Here is our CodeRVA Student Code of Conduct 2025-26 BOARD APPROVED FINAL VERSION.pdf for your reference. We encourage all families to review this information if they are new to CodeRVA. For returning families, there were no major changes.

Attention families of students who drive to school!
-
If your student is planning to drive to school, please note families will need to complete this form. (We will also have paper copies available in the main office if needed.) No students may drive to school without a completed form, and there is no parking fee associated with this form. Even if a student has a completed form on file from last year, we must have a new form completed for this school year. As a reminder, CodeRVA students should park their vehicles in the parking lot at CodeRVA only. Students should not park at FeedMore or at any other restricted locations as they may be towed and CodeRVA will not be held responsible for any vehicles that are towed from the areas surrounding our school.
Did you know we have our own CodeRVA Clothes Closet filled with new and gently used casual, professional, and semi-formal items? With autumn and Homecoming just around the corner you may want to browse! If so, please contact your School Counselor!
Attention all 9th and 10th grade families with students in Health/Physical Education 9 and 10! We have not yet received confirmation that the YMCA will again sponsor free memberships for our students. As soon as we hear an update, it will be shared here.
Speaking of heavy lifting, any chance we have a Raptor family who specializes in moving pianos? I am looking to move a piano from North Chesterfield into our school now that we have hired so many staff who can play. First we move it, and then we tune it, so don’t expect any show tunes just yet. If you know of someone who could donate their services for a move or who tunes pianos and would do this service for free, please email me directly at kume.goranson@coderva.org.
Last but not least today, here is a community event shared by our partners at the University of Richmond in case you are interested.
-
On Thursday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. David Esleck, UR’s professor of jazz piano, presents a concert of jazz taken from and inspired by hymns and other songs of faith. This concert is part of the Department of Music Free Concert Series. All concerts are FREE and seating is general admission. Registration is encouraged.
That is quite enough for one message, Raptors! Please check out the reminders below in case you missed something from a previous message, and have a great weekend!

We’re excited to share that CodeRVA is resuming our Weekend Backpack Program in partnership with Feed More! Each weekend bag will include six shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare meals: 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners.
-
If your family is interested in participating, please contact Ms. Welsh by Thursday, August 28th at 3:30 PM, or complete the interest form linked below:
All families must fill out this form no later than August 29. Not sure if you filled it in already? Please check with us via email at info@coderva.org or call us at 804-968-1820 rather than filling out the form twice. Also, if you live in a home with multiple adults who all love to fill out electronic forms, please try and only have one adult fill the form out for each student you have at CodeRVA. Please note that students will not be able to buy tickets for Homecoming (scheduled for October 17; Save the Date!) until this form is completed.
Please note all CodeRVA students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. There is no need to provide any paperwork to receive these meals. Here is a document that may be helpful if you want to provide your student with money for additional snacks via the cafeteria’s a la carte menu. If your student has a food allergy and needs breakfast or lunch menu modifications, please let us know at info@coderva.org and we will forward your request on to our cafeteria manager.
Attention all Seniors in the Class of 2026! Here is all the information you need about Senior portraits, quotes, Yearbooks and more!
All families who want to pay their 2025-26 school fees with cash or a check made payable to CodeRVA Regional High School can do so by sending the money with their student.
- You can pay online as well , but please note the company that Henrico County uses to host our fee system does charge a fee. (That fee does not go to CodeRVA and is typically 3-5% of the total cost of your fees.) All families can check here for a complete listing of student fees by grade level and pathway.
Attention Families of Juniors and Seniors! We are sharing the following scheduling updates for the 2025-26 school year. Most of the information below is the same as what was shared at the end of last school year, but some updates have been added. Please read the information below carefully.
-
All 11th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway will no longer have any gaps in their schedules during the school year as previous cohorts experienced. These students should plan to attend all marking periods of the 2025-26 school year. One programming change is that these students’ CodeRVA Physics class will move to an asynchronous format for Marking Period 3, BUT students will still be taking courses on campus during what we are referring to as their “J Term”. This year’s J Term will include two courses: MUS 121: Music and Society and HIS 121: US History. Students will have one class in the morning and a second class in the afternoon. Students will have time during Raptor Rotation to continue working on their CodeRVA Physics class and other online classes as applicable.
-
All 11th grade students taking Dual Enrollment classes through the Classic + DE pathway should plan to attend in person during all marking periods as well. These students will no longer have any significant gaps in their schedules during the school year as previous cohorts experienced. If any programming gaps exist, they will be brief, during the school day, and students will remain on campus and have time to complete work for any course in which they are enrolled.
-
11th grade students who recently transitioned from the Associate Degree pathway over the summer but remain in Dual Enrollment courses (there are only 11 students in this group) will take one course during Marking Period 3 in their J Term: HIS 121: US History. Their CodeRVA Physics class will move to an asynchronous format for only MP3 and students will have time during Raptor Rotation to continue working on their CodeRVA Physics class and other online classes as applicable.
-
All 11th grade students not enrolled in any Dual Enrollment courses should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 29, 2026.
-
All 12th grade students on the Associate Degree pathway should plan to attend in person all marking periods through the end of Marking Period 5 (4/15/26). At the conclusion of MP5, students on the Associate Degree will have completed all requirements for their high school diploma and Associate Degree (unless they are completing a World Language course during their 12th grade year). These students should not plan to attend classes after MP5 concludes.
-
All 12th grade students taking Dual Enrollment classes through J. Sargeant Reynolds who are not on the Associate Degree pathway should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8, 2026. Following the conclusion of their Dual Enrollment courses on April 15, 2026, there may be an option to arrive late or leave early if they have transportation available. More details will be shared during the spring about this possible option.
-
All 12th grade students on the Web Design pathway should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8. Following the conclusion of their Web Design courses on April 15, students will be given the option to arrive at the beginning of Rotation 3 if they have transportation available. More details will be shared during the spring about the late arrival option. Students that do not arrive late during this time will be assigned to a specific location to complete work.
-
All 12th grade students not enrolled in any Dual Enrollment courses should plan to attend in person through Friday, May 8, 2026.
